Online Co-op Games on Steam

Online co-op is the tag most groups actually want: you and your friends against the game, over the internet, each on your own machine. Steam applies it separately from plain “Co-op”, which is why a game can be co-op on the box and still not have an online mode.

What to check before you commit

  • Steam has no field for player count, so a two-player co-op campaign and a sixteen-player raid carry the identical tag. Check the store page before you buy for a group.
  • Some games list Online Co-op but gate it behind campaign progress, or require every player to have finished a prologue.
  • A game tagged both Online Co-op and Remote Play Together usually means the online mode is limited and streaming fills the gap.
